I also think the pregens all used standard array. I am leaning towards standard array (i feel like explaining point buy will be chaos, and i personally hate rolling for stats since it does make some characters super weak at low levels- not something you want for new players). They can use the pregen as the base if they choose to, tweak it if they want, or go in a totally different directly.Īssign stat points- 10 is average, you want to give the most to what your character is good at (fighter-str, theif-dex, wiz-int, ect).Ĭhoose skills (chance to explain them all)Ĭhoose feats (push ones that make sense for them) I was thinking PC gen, and have them all create a character from scrath. I personally use PCGEN and love it- but it is not exactly the most user friendly piece of software if you do not know what you are doing. So wanted at least 1 session where they got to actually play the game. I figured there was a 50/50 shot that no one would want to every play again- ever. I was thinking that- but i wanted to avoid a real session 0 since they were all new to TTPRGs. TLDR- need to teach brand new players how to level up a character for the first time- how do you do this I think at least 2 of the 3 players are excited and would want to keep playing long term (and a DM and 2 players is a good start to a gaming group). Since they started with pregens, i am permitting them to either level up that character, so move to something different at lvl 2 (would not change the plot- and no reason to force someone to play something they randomly picked before ever playing).Īnyone have any advice on this. So i expect to have to teach them actual character creation before the next session. So we are playing this weekend, and i asked them all to look into leveling up- but i know none of them have done it. Session goes about 5 hours- so they are easily lvl 2 (doing the math they are about halfway to lvl 3). We used pregens since I wanted to actually let them play rather than spend hours explaining the rules. So first session goes great (about 2 weeks ago). I have played for years, and know the rules pretty well (should be able to teach them- great on martials and arcane casters, in 30 years i do not think i ever played a cleric- so big blind spot). So new group of 3 players and me as the DM. /r/3d6 - For character creation, advice and sharing (system agnostic)./r/Battlemaps - For your VTT battlemap requirements./r/Tabletop - For your general tabletop gaming shenanigans./r/lfg - Looking For Group, find other players, etc./r/RPG - For general, non-Pathfinder related RPG discussion./r/Starfinder_rpg - For dedicated discussion of Paizo's Science Fantasy system and setting./r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker - To discuss the Owlcat-made computer RPGs./r/Pathfinder2e - For dedicated Second Edition discussion./r/Pathfinder - For Pathfinder Society Organization/Discussion.Other subreddits you might be interested in: Fillable character sheets and intelligent character builders. Some of these tools and resources include the following: We have a Wiki page that includes links for various useful tools and resources, most of which have been provided by the members of this community.
